As my husband and I prep to purchase our first home, I found that our finances were not the only thing that needed to get organized. Five years in this apartment and we have accumulated a lot of stuff. I’ve seen postings online on several social media sites, blogs and other media outlets with suggestions for organization. I decided to try a couple of them out and here are some of my favorites.
- If I get up to leave a room, I put something away. It’s so easy to do. All you have to do is get up and you are already half-way there. Look around and see if something appears out of place. If so, move it, throw it away, donate it or sell it.
Winter is finally over and the sun is shining bright. The time has come to put away those sweaters and break out the sundresses. It is easy to feel a little overwhelmed and when you are on a tight schedule, sometimes you just want to chuck it all and give up. Why not prep for the BIG clean?
- Hang all of your clothes on hangers in the reverse direction. After 12 months, donate all the items with the hangers still in reverse.
- Once you have the time to start cleaning house, set a timer for 15 minutes. Straighten up as much as you can in those 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, look around, take a breath and relax a few minutes if you need it. Are you done? No? Set your timer and get going. You’ll be amazed how much you can accomplish in just 15 minutes.
- Put your items into piles; DONATE, SELL or THROW AWAY. Donate gently used clothing to thrift stores or get a little back by selling them at consignment shops, local retailers (Plato’s Closet/Clothes Mentor) or online.
Hopefully, this will help lighten your load a little and maybe you’ll have a little extra spending money to save for a rainy day. Until then, go outside and enjoy this gorgeous day.
