Track Debt Progress: Stay Motivated and On Track

< Back to Money Minute

The new year has arrived, and we are already in the middle of January. If you’re like me, I’m still finalizing your goals for 2025. Instead of setting New Year Resolutions, which often bring stress and pressure, I’ve chosen a different approach.  By reflecting on the upcoming year and focusing on what I want to accomplish, I’m  opening up more possibilities. This process  also reminds me of how interconnected my goals are truly are.

Of course, everyone’s goals are different. Maybe it’s building savings for emergencies or a specific goal (like vacation, home repairs or purchasing a home) or maybe it’s paying down debts. You may both of these goals. In this blog, I’ll focus on paying off debts with tips to track your progress and stay motivated.

Track Your Progress:

  1. List and organize all your debts
    1. Place debts in categories. Consider types of debts, balances, or interest rates.
  2. Review debt repayment options
    1. Paying them off on your own with debt snowball or debt avalanche.
    2. Reaching out to a trusted organization, such as Apprisen for help.
  3. Set small goals along the way
    1. Paying down debts for x months in a row.
    2. Reducing your debt balance by $X.
    3. Paying off one debt at a time.

Motivation Tips:

  1. Focus on your “Why”
    1. It provides your purpose while paying off debts. Plus, it helps you stay motivated to reach your larger goals.
  2. Have a Visual Reminder
    1. It allows for a daily reminder to show what is possible after you pay off your debts.
  3. Consider an Accountability Partner
    1. Work with someone that can provide support and cheer you on as you work to pay off you debts. Maybe a family member or close friend. If you don’t feel comfortable with someone in your circle, Apprisen can help. We’ve offered a safe space to help individuals pay off their debts for 70 years with our Debt Management Program.

In conclusion, working on financial goals will have ups and downs. It will also take time, so remember to give yourself flexibility. And more importantly, celebrate your wins. Each one to help you stay on track and keep you motivated.
